Mansion At Dusk
A mansion on Cape Cod at dusk.

Vacation Feet
TheSpouse and I had a short vacation this summer on the water. Here are our happy vacation feet.

Ducks at Sunset
Ducks crossing over to the other side of the point at Spruce Point in Boothbay Harbor, Maine - June 2006. (Some photoshopping for color, contrast.)

Great Falls, Virginia Side
I finally made a trip to Great Falls and snapped a few pictures. Here's one of my favorites (slightly photoshopped for color balance and contrast).

Epcot Lights
Another shot from our weekend at Disney - these are lights at Epcot at Christmastime.

Taken with a Powershot A610.

Gingerbread Parade
I had a business trip to Orlando in December 2005 and my spouse came down afterwards and we took a long weekend at Disney. This is a shot from Mickey's Christmas parade that I found very amusing.

Taken with a Powershot A610.

Dishevelled Self
Quick self-portrait; December 2005; Orlando Florida. The hair has since been chopped off again. Taken with Powershot A610.

Flower Girls
Two flower girls (sisters) at a wedding I was the photographer for earlier this year.

Rope at Pier
A tie-up on the pier near the end of King Street in Alexandria, Virginia; December 2004.

Pigeons
Some pigeons on the pier at the end of King Street in Alexandria, Virginia; December 2004.

Blossom Bench
A bench and some cherry blossoms overlooking the Potomac River (not visible) in Washington DC; spring 2005.

Cherry Trees in Bloom
Cherry blossom time in Washington DC; spring 2005.

Korean War Memorial II
A visit to the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC at the end of 2004. The Lincoln Memorial is visible in the background.

Korean War Memorial I
A visit to the Korean War Memorial in Washington DC at the end of 2004.

Racing the Potomac
I was walking across the Key Bridge from Georgetown to Rosslyn the other day and snapped this picture.

Pre Cookies
I was making chocolate chip cookies the other day and the camera was nearby. I had used dark brown sugar for these instead of my usual light brown, so they looked and tasted a bit different.

Chain Link Flower
This photo was taken with my Canon Powershot S10 in April of 2001 in Arlington, Virginia. I resurrected it, because someone discovered it in Google's image search and wanted to use it as an illustration.

Quilt Soleil
I attended the Williamsburg Quilt Festival in February and took a bunch of pictures of some very striking quilts. This is a close-up of the blue-ribbon winner of the "Innovative" category. It's called "X-ray du Soleil" and is based on an x-ray picture of the sun. The detail is just amazing.

Colonial Fence
A fence at Colonial Williamsburg; late February 2004.

Blueline II
A group shot from the Blueline photoshoot in November.

Blueline I
A group shot from the Blueline photoshoot in November.

Kakki from Blueline
Another portrait shot from the Blueline photoshoot.

Brian from BlueLine
One of the members of the a cappella group BlueLine. I did a quick and dirty photo shoot for them in November 2003.

Fall Leaves
Striking fall colors in our neighborhood. While never as vibrant as my native New England, Virginia still manages to produce some nice foliage here and there.

Sculpture Garden Flowers
These flowers were found outside the National Gallery Sculpture Garden on the Mall in Washington D.C., October 2003. I have another similar photo composed slightly differently that I may post as a companion to this one. The other is more centered, whereas this is slightly off-kilter. (Note my highly technical terminology!) It took me longer than usual to decide which of the two to post, but I think generally I lean towards the less symmetric composition.

Capitol
The U.S. Capitol Building through some trees from Constitution Avenue, October 2003. Not the greatest picture in terms of contrast, but, I've discovered that it's actually difficult to get a good picture of the Capitol, at least given the walking-around equipment that I tend to have whenever I'm down on the Mall.

By The Sea
J, investigating rocks on the coast of Cape Cod, September 2003.

Niece and Shoe
August 2003 -- Braley plays with a shoe in Iowa. I had to do a little red-eye reduction on this, and there are a couple of minor things I might change, but otherwise I think it's a cute candid portrait. 8x10s shipped to the parents and grandparents.

Henna Tattoo
Deb, with a new henna tattoo in June 2003. I really liked this picture and thought it was a good portrait except that the white balance or contrast or something is off a bit, making the sweater a bit too bright.

Rocks and Water
A view out into the ocean from a small beach on Cape Cod. Taken in September 2003.

Another Sunset at Woods Hole
This sunset in September 2003 occurred after a relatively heavy rainstorm in the afternoon. A previous sunset from Woods Hole (from July 2002) is viewable here.

Sunflower
Sunflowers from Flowerbud.com. September 2003. I particularly like the way the backlighting through the petals worked in this one.

Anniversary Rose
A rose in a 2nd-anniversary bouquet. September 2003.

Dishevelled Buttercups
Small yellow flowers in the grass - taken during our vacation in June 2003 somewhere in northern California.

Personality
I like this picture, because I think in 15 years I'll be able to get another picture of her with exactly the same expression. There are some baby pictures of people that just capture the personality they end up exhibiting later in life. I have a theory that this might be one of them for this kid. Too bad about the shadows and the lighting, though.

Flags at Dusk
This was taken in March 2002 on a drizzly night in Georgetown. It's one of my favorite moody pictures.

Child in Swing
This was a difficult picture to get because the kid was moving and so focusing was hard. I'm sure there's some camera setting that would have helped, but I still haven't learned all the fancy features on my camera yet. I was taking a bunch of pictures of this baby for her first birthday. I'm not really happy with the set as a whole, but there are a couple of decent ones, I guess.

Abe
The Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C. Powershot S10.

Old Wine Barrels
Wine barrels on the lawn at Glenora Wine Cellars, upstate New York, spring 2000, Powershot S10. Glenora also boasts a lovely Inn overlooking the vineyards and Seneca Lake.

Street at Sundown
A neighborhood street in Virginia, taken in April 2001 with a Powershot S10.

Zoo Pink
This picture was taken at the National Zoo in May 2003. These flowers were beside one of the walking trails. One of the nice things about keeping an eye out for good flower pictures is that you can find them in very nondescript places.

Pink Daisy
A pink daisy in a birthday bouquet. Spring 2003. There's something about the out-of-focus greenery through the window behind the flowers that appealed to me in this picture.

Pensive
Becky, in a pensive moment at a summer barbecue.

White Tree Flower
Once again, my lack of knowledge about the names of plants and flowers is displayed. This is a tree just outside my house that flowers in the spring. I'm actually not crazy about this picture -- I think there's a little too much going on in the background, but it's gotten positive reviews from a couple other people and I do like the way the sunlight is hitting the white petals in the foreground.

Pine Cones
Found on a walk in suburbia in spring 2003.

Casino Lights
This is inside the Peppermill Casino in Reno Nevada. It was our first visit to a major casino. I have no particular desire to go to a casino again, but the food was excellent.

Shasta Lake
This is a view of Shasta Lake taken from near the entrance to the Shasta Caverns. The bridge in the distance is apparently the longest (or biggest by some metric) double decker bridge in the world. Taken in June 2003.

Mt. Shasta
Northern California; Shasta Region; June 2003.

Small Falls
Somewhere in the woods in upstate New York. I was on a dayhike with my friend G. Early 2000. Powershot S10.

Cloudy Seneca
Clouds rolling in over Seneca Lake. Upstate New York, 2000. Powershot S10

Birthday Peach Rose
This is a special picture. It's a rose that was in the bouquet my husband sent me on my birthday just after we started seeing each other. At that point I decided that this pale peach color was my favorite color for roses. We used this picture for the cover of our wedding program. Taken with a Powershot S10.

Yellow and Orange
Daffodils. Picture taken sometime in 2000 in Ithaca, New York with a Powershot S10.

Tiger Lily
Is this a tiger lily? I don't know, but that's the name that occurred to me. Used in the 2003 calendar I gave as a 2002 Christmas gift. Taken with a Powershot S10.

Stargazer
Most of the time, I can take or leave the scent of flowers, but stargazer lilies produce one of my favorite flower scents. Taken with a Powershot S10. Used in the 2003 calendar.

Purple Daisy
This photo ended up in the 2003 calendar that I gave to a few people for Christmas 2002. Taken with a Powershot S10.

White Iris
This photo ended up in the 2003 calendar that I gave to a few people for Christmas 2002. Taken with a Powershot S10.

Howard Dean - June 2003
Presidential Candidate Howard Dean at a fundraiser near Union Station, Washington, D.C.

Daffodil in the Neighborhood
A daffodil from spring 2003 in my neighbor's yard.

Pink Lily
This lily was in a Flowerbud bouquet that my parents sent us for Easter 2003. I have an 11x14 print of it in my living room at the time of this posting.

This picture is also available as a desktop background image.

Snowy Branches in Boston
This is one of my favorite winter pictures. I have a version with a bit more contrast that I use as a desktop image on my laptop occasionally. It was taken from inside the Boston Museum of Science in March of 2001 with my Powershot. It's through a window looking out at the Charles. I especially like the bridge barely visible in the background.

Pink and White
A pink and white carnation. At least I think it's a carnation. Correct me on flower names if I'm wrong. Anyway, this picture ended up in the 2003 calendar that I gave to a few people as a Christmas present in 2002. I'm generally not fond of carnations, but I liked this picture. Taken with a Powershot S10.

Tall Purple Flowers
I don't know what these flowers are -- I'm really bad with flower names. This picture was taken in Ithaca, NY in early 2000 with my Powershot S10. It is one of the pictures that ended up in the 2003 calendar I gave as a Christmas gift in 2002.

Ubik Praying
Ubik was gazing at the skylight in our old rented townhouse because there were strange noises emanating from it. There was a sheet of ice above it that was melting and cracking and he was utterly fascinated. He held this pose for minutes. Taken with a Powershot S10.

Dawn & Jared
Dawn & Jared, just after their wedding ceremony on Lake Tahoe in June 2003. The colors in the fullsize version of this are just spectacular (through no talent of my own, but because of the choices they made and the perfect weather that day.)

Rosanna Lyn on the Fourth
Rosanna Lyn -- Fourth of July, 2003, hanging with her Uncle Steve. Red-eye photoshopped into oblivion, many 8x10s printed!

Rings and Roses
Dawn and Jared's wedding rings and roses -- June 14, 2003. See also Jared -- Wedding Day.

STL Botanical
St. Louis Botanical Garden; summer 2000; Powershot S10.

Taughannock Falls
Taughannock Falls; Ithaca, New York; June 2000. Powershot S10.

Self Portrait -- June 2000
Self portrait, just after a haircut, highlights, and an eyebrow wax. Teehee. June 2000. (I don't think I've had my eyebrows waxed since, actually.) Powershot S10.

Myszka Reflecting
March 2000 -- Myszka and her reflection; Ithaca, New York. Canon Powershot S10.

Self Portrait - November 2001
Self Portrait; November 2001; Canon Powershot S10.

Washington Monument
The Washington Monument from the Jefferson Memorial. Powershot S10. June 2001.

This picture is also available as a desktop background image.

Alligator in Grass
An alligator at the National Zoo. May 2003.

Tucker Close
Tucker, a very small terrier. April 2003.

Aellianna Booboo
Aellianna; April 2003. With a small boo-boo.

Twilight Dock
Something was not set quite right with my camera (the old Powershot S10) when I snapped this shot of a dock and water at twilight on Cape Cod. However, I kind of liked the way it came out, anyway. Summer 2002.

Sunset at Woods Hole
Sunset at Woods Hole, Massachusetts; July, 2002. Powershot S10.

Beth -- Wedding Day
Beth on her wedding day; August 31, 2002 -- coincidentally one day before my own first wedding anniversary. On the coast of Maine. With a Canon Powershot S10.

Beige Lily
A beige-orange oriental lily from a Flowerbud.com bouquet. Taken with a Canon Powershot S10.

Ubik Portrait
A close-up Ubik, my yellow kitty-cat; I think this was taken sometime in 2001; it was taken with a Canon Powershot S10. I currently have a framed 8x10 of this on my living room wall.

Orange Lily
An orange lily from a Flowerbud.com bouquet. Powershot S10.

Mexican Hat Flowers
I don't know what kind of flowers these are, but J referred to them as mexican hat flowers and that seems as good a name as any. I found them on a golf course near Mt. Shasta in California in June of 2003.

Steve in Colby Sweatshirt
A picture from April 2001 taken with my old Powershot S10 of my husband.

Howard Dean
Presidential Candidate and former Governor of Vermont Howard Dean at a rally/fundraiser near Union Station, Washington, D.C., June 24, 2003.

Carriage House
A sign at the carriage house at the Jonsson Center in Woods Hole, Massachusetts; taken in May 2003.

Lassen
One of the volcanoes in Lassen Volcanic National Park; taken in June 2003.

Turtle Convoy
A convoy of turtles at the National Zoo in May 2003

Jared -- Wedding Day
Jared on his wedding day; June 14, 2003.

O'Brien Pink Rose
This rose was found in the rose garden at O'Brien Mountain Inn, a bed and breakfast that my husband and I stayed at during our vacation in June of 2003.

Dew on Grass
This photograph was taken at the National Zoo in May of 2003. I didn't catch the opportunity at first; my husband suggested I get some pictures of the grass with dew.

This picture is also available as a desktop background image.
